About The Barefoot Peregrine…

I’m hiking above the town of Trimbak, in the province of Maharashtra, India, in 2019.

Hi! I’m Jamie.

My nest is in western Canada, but I enjoy jetting around the globe, especially to tropical destinations.
My wife, Myrina, is supportive of my photography and is my biggest fan! She is the one who encouraged me to start this blog.

Photography has always been a hobby of mine, for as long as I can remember.
Here’s an interesting fact about me:
I am primarily a Pentax shooter, which makes me a unique breed of photographer. It is sometimes limiting, because there are fewer lenses available, but I enjoy the Pentax platform. (I am not sponsored by Pentax, or anybody else, this is just my opinion…)

I am kind of a purist when it comes to my photography. I try to do as much with the camera as I can. I mostly do only light editing; by that I mean adjusting color a bit, cropping, etc.
Photography is fun, but I believe that what I do with my camera is also a responsibility… I am freezing time with my camera, taking moments and making them something that we can look at when that moment has long since expired. I try to do something unique, that will hopefully cause my photo’s viewers to see things from a new perspective.

One of my favorite categories I love to shoot is nature: animals, landscapes, night photography, and more.
I also do some human photography: maternity, engagement, baby photos, and more. (I have been a second shooter a couple of times for my friend, Shalene, a wedding photographer. As much as I enjoyed it, I’m pretty confident that’s not the direction I see my photography going. I wouldn’t like the huge pressure of being the main shooter.) Sidenote: If you need a wedding photographer, check out Shalene’s website, she’s amazing!

I find the challenge of shooting nature exhilarating because I can’t ask it to pose or look at me a certain way. I just have to be in the right place at the right time and hope for a little luck. Usually, with nature, I shoot lots of pictures in hopes of getting that one good shot; but when I get it, then WOW!
I especially like taking pictures while on vacation, when I can discover new species and landscapes. I’m passionate about the outdoors and travelling!

I am a scuba diver, and I enjoy taking underwater pictures. For that, I use my Canon & FantaSea underwater housing.

If you would like to know more about how I came up with the name of my blog, please check out my first post: An Introduction.
